It is with sadness that I pass along news of the demise of Dispute Resolution Magazine as we know it. ABA DR Section Chair Susan Guthrie made the announcement in a recent email sent to the Section’s membership tying the decision to funding restraints. As Co-Chair of the Editorial Board (along w/ our very own Jen Reynolds), I can vouch for that – nobody wanted this to happen. The Section, along with all of the ABA, is suffering from serious financial difficulties like many other professional organizations are. What saddens me the most is that the magazine has been a great place for academics to bring theory to practice and vice-versa, as many of you can attest through articles you’ve contributed through the years.
Mourning the magazine is what I’m doing as we work on the final issue which will be published in September. Below is the Section’s announcement of the magazine demise located at the end of the magazine’s April issue, which should be hitting your mailbox soon if it hasn’t already. I hope the Beyond the Pages Task Force described below can come up with a viable alternative, and if it does, that doesn’t mean that the magazine’s loss isn’t worth mourning.
The ABA’s Dispute Resolution Magazine is dead. Long live Dispute Resolution Magazine !!

Dear Dispute Resolution Magazine Readers,
The Section would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the continued support and engagement of Dispute Resolution Magazine readers, contributors, and editors. For nearly 30 years, the Magazine has served as a valuable resource and a platform for sharing insights, stories, and industry developments.
After extensive and in-depth consideration, Section Leadership has made the difficult decision to sunset the Dispute Resolution Magazine, effective as of the final Fall 2025 edition. This decision was not made lightly, and Leadership carefully explored every possible alternative before reaching this conclusion. Ongoing funding decisions are having – and will continue to have – an immediate impact on the Section, and Leadership is urgently working to position it for long-term stability and success.
We understand that this news may be disappointing to our readership. Please know that Section Leadership is actively addressing the situation with diligence and care. The Section remains committed to navigating this challenge thoughtfully and will continue to keep you informed as we move forward.
While this marks the end of an era, it also opens new opportunities. We are excited to create digital offerings to ensure that section members continue to receive high-quality content in a more flexible and interactive way. The Section has created the Beyond the Pages Task Force, charged with developing a content-based and theory-to-practice membership deliverables. The Task Force was created in February and will be sharing its progress with all Section Members in the near future.
In going fallow, the Magazine is giving space for future reinvention. The Magazine’s Fall edition will focus on change, opportunity, and harnessing creative energy in challenging times.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to staying connected in this evolving landscape.
In gratitude for your understanding and in hope for the future,
The Section of Dispute Resolution
