As if we need any more proof that doctors are as human as the rest of us and as subject to life’s temptations, I offer the following stories from the recent news.

A close up picture of the wrists of a man being handcuffed.

Local Mayo Clinic doctor arrested at the Phoenix Open for drunkenly assaulting woman.

Colorado doctor, whose license was suspended last year, arrested for improper touching of female patient during what police referred to as a “fake medical exam.”

New York doctor charged with health care fraud and receiving illegal kickbacks involving over $20 million in fraudulent charges to Medicare.

Texas doctor arrested and charged with four counts of sexual assault of female patients.

Georgia doctor charged with running a pill mill out of his medical office and prescribing unnecessary drugs to patients.

West Virginia doctor charged with tax fraud for failing to pay over $2.5 million in payroll taxes.

An Orange County, California doctor has been charged with attempting to poison her husband with Drano.  Ick.

Trial is underway for a Dallas anesthesiologist accused of adding poison to IV bags.

New York state doctor charged with murder in the poisoning death of his wife.

Physician couple in Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to health care fraud against the United States.

Late Nevada OB/GYN accused of using his own sperm to impregnate patients seeking sperm bank assistance in becoming pregnant.

Houston area doctor arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexually abusing female patients.

I could go on and on, but you get the point.  Doctors are respected members of society, but are not immune to the faults we all experience as human beings.  Just because a doctor says it does not make it true.  Trust but verify.  Report bad conduct and protect other patients.
