There have been many conversations of late about the future of our field, including about how to diversify our constituents and help new practitioners transition into an ADR career. Developing Dispute Resolution Practitioners and ADR Leaders: Mentorship, Apprenticeship, Coaching, and Other Approaches

This roundtable will bring together practitioners, educators, dispute resolution program administrators, and other members of the DR community to explore how to expand our field through the development of new practitioners.

Whether mid-career attorneys or recent law school graduates, aspiring practitioners benefit from the wisdom and guidance of experienced practitioners. And the dispute resolution field benefits from this synergy and the inevitable expansion of energy, ideas, and perspectives from ADR newcomers. Bringing in mediation interns and externs to offer views on the benefits of effective apprenticeship and mentor programs, three practitioners will facilitate the discussion around training and developing dispute resolvers.

The roundtable is designed to build on this discussion by eliciting input from participants to share innovative practices, generate creative ideas, and outline a blueprint to develop future ADR practitioners and leaders. The roundtable supports the Dispute Resolution’s mission to take the lead in developing the ADR profession.
